‘Cinderella,’ the latest added edition to the live-action remake of the fairy tale classic, is finally released on Amazon Prime Video.
Now, who isn’t familiar with this fairy tale? It’s possibly the most famous depiction of enduring the wickedness from stepmothers and stepsisters, having a fabulous fairy godmother, dancing the night away until midnight, losing a shoe, and getting her dashing prince?
But, since there have been many remakes over the years, is the latest remake worth watching at all?
Cinderella 2021 Has a Narrative Twist?
Well, the ‘Cinderella’ 2021 offers a well-loved traditional setting. However, it also showcases a fresh narrative twist.
How so? It’s an Amazon Prime Original and features several great voices from Minnie Driver, Idina Menzel, Nicolas Galitzine, Billy Porter, Camila Cabello, and Pierce Brosnan.
A Genderless Fab Godmother
Billy Porter plays the astounding role of Cinderella’s fairy godmother, or rather, the Fab Godmother. It is among the most significant changes from the previous versions.
Cinderella Doesn’t Talk to the Mice.
You must have remembered that in the original version and other remakes, Cinderella could communicate with her furry friends.
The mice played a big part in helping her out with her troubles at home.
But, in this edition, she doesn’t talk or can understand them. It’s only the audience who can hear and identify with the emotions or thoughts of the mice. These characters were voiced by notable British comedians James Acaster, James Corden, and Romesh Ranganathan.
Not such an Evil Stepmother
Idina Menzel plays Vivian’s evil stepmother, and she isn’t as evil as you’d think. Isn’t that something fresh?
She rather represents a highly conservative parent and often dislikes any child’s progressive ideas.
The Heroine Has Big Dreams
Okay, not to disrespect Cinderella in the past, but the 2021 heroine, Camila Cabello, has big, big dreams.
She doesn’t settle to be saved by someone else but is determined to make her dreams come true.
Well, should you watch it?
Although there were mixed opinions about the Amazon Prime Original from viewers, the film was engaging, interesting, and a lot of fun to watch.
